A human rights activist, with Damocracy for All, Comrade Paul Njoku has said that there is more in the abduction and release of 76 out of the 110 Dapchi secondary school girls by suspected members of Book Haram than meets the eyes.
Njoku stated this while reacting to the release of the girls in Umuahia, the Abia State capital, accusing the federal government of complicity in the development which was said to had led to the death of five of the girls.
“We want President Buhari to tell us why he is negotiating with terrorist. We heard that the terrorist drove into Dapchi Police station in the city in a convoy of nine Hilux vans and dropped the girls unchallenged,” he noted.
The author, who also alleged that the government used the saga to justify its allocation of $1b for the campaign against terrorism in the North East zone, expressed dismay with the present administration in the country.
He said, “You don’t negotiate with terrorists, rather you deal with them. But on the contrary the All Progressive Congress (APC)-led government is negotiating with Boko Haram even with the havoc it has brought on the nation.”
According to him, the scenario that has played out since the girls were adducted few weeks ago and the way and manner in which they were released, shows that the whole incident was a systemic and calculated way of looting the country’s treasury.
He called on the government to tell Nigerians and the world how the girls were released and the amount involVed, describing it as “an articulated grand ploy by the government to win the minds of the people to win the 2019 election.”
Njoku expressed concern that “Buhari, who denigrated former president Goodluck Jonathan for failing to address the Book Haram challenged during the 2015 general election has shown that he lacked the capacity to handle it better.”
