FG Raises N4.68bn from June Savings Bond
By Ayo Kehinde The Federal Government of Nigeria has raised N4.678 billion through its June 2026 Savings Bond issuance, signalling growing retail investor interest in government-backed fixed-income securities. According to allotment results released by the Debt Management Office (DMO) on Wednesday, the amount raised exceeded the N4.074 billion recorded in May 2026, representing an increase of about N604 million or nearly 15 percent. The June Savings Bond offer, which was open for subscription between June 1 and June 5, consisted of two instruments: a two-year bond due in June 2028 with a coupon rate of 13.777 percent, and a three-year bond due in June 2029 offering a higher coupon rate of 14.777 percent. IMF Raises Transparency Concerns Over Nigeria’s Planned $5bn Abu Dhabi Bank Loan
By Ayo Kehinde The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has expressed concerns over Nigeria’s proposed $5 billion borrowing arrangement with First Abu Dhabi Bank, warning that the financing structure could expose the country to fiscal risks due to limited transparency. Speaking after the IMF’s latest Article IV consultation with Nigeria, the Fund’s mission chief, Christian Ebeke, cautioned against the use of complex financing instruments such as Total Return Swaps (TRS), which are often difficult to scrutinise and assess. “Our view is that transactions in these types of structures carry risks. Usually they are opaque, so the terms are not always very transparent when we review these instruments across countries”, Ebeke told reporters. Nigeria’s Senate approved the borrowing plan in April. The …

AGPC MD Calls for Regulatory Stability, Infrastructure Expansion to Unlock Nigeria’s Domestic Gas Potential
The Managing Director of ANOH Gas Processing Company (AGPC), Mr. James Makinde, has called for reforms in Nigeria’s domestic gas sector, stating that regulatory stability, infrastructure development, and contract sanctity are critical to unlocking sustained investment and increased gas supply. Speaking at the Association of Local Distributors of Gas (ALDG) Business Forum 2026 in Abuja, Makinde dismissed the perception that gas producers are unwilling to supply the domestic market, insisting that the Nigerian gas sector has matured and can now compete effectively in the export market. He said that producers are willing and ready to commit more gas volumes to the domestic market, but enabling conditions should be in place. “There is an erroneous perception that producers do not want to …

DMO Increases Q2 Treasury Bills Issuance by 21.5 Percent to N4.8tn
By Ayo Kehinde The Debt Management Office (DMO) has increased its Nigerian Treasury Bills (NTB) issuance programme for the second quarter of 2026 to N4.8 trillion, up from the original N3.95 trillion planned for the period. An analysis of the original and revised Q2 2026 NTB issuance calendars shows the upward adjustment represents an increase of N850 billion, or 21.52 percent, with the additional borrowing concentrated entirely in June. Despite the revision, total Treasury Bills maturities for the quarter remain unchanged at N3.197 trillion. However, the increase significantly raises the government’s net borrowing position, with net new issuance above maturities climbing to N1.603 trillion from the previously planned N753.21 billion. The revised programme indicates a stronger reliance on short-term domestic …
