Jondejam, the Fulani socio-cultural organization in the country has condemned as barbaric and unpardonable the brutal killing of eleven persons in Mangu Local Government Council of Plateau State by gunmen on Wednesday.
National President of the group, Alh Saidu Maikano Adamu Adamu expressed deep regret over the killing during a telephone interview with our correspondence in Jos,
He traced the cause of the killing to “ a clashed between the natives and herders leading to the death of many people” and confirmed that “one Klengchin Yusuf and eleven others lost their lives while one person who was critically wounded is receiving treatment at the Mangu General Hospital,”
He sued for peace among the people in the community, adding that “God did not make mistake to bring them as members of one family, as brothers and sisters, to live in the same community.”
The Jonde Jam president described the killing as an attempt to subvert the course of justice and derail the hard earned peace that gradually returned to the various warring communities of herders and natives in the State since the peace making efforts of the state and federal governments along with leaders of the various communities and security agencies.
He said “as Fulani community leaders, we are working hard to ensure that people live in peace with their neighbors and we hereby appeal to Governor Lalong to ensure that those making the hard won peace by his administration are dealt with according to the law.
“We are asking on the appropriate authority not to be biased but to deal decisively with those group that flout the law and anybody found culpable in attacking or inciting people to carry out attacks against one another should face the full wrath of the law “.
Meanwhile, Gov Lalong has assured the people hat thorough investigations will be carried out to get to the bottom of the matter, promising that anyone found wanting will face the full wrath of the law.
The Governor called for calm and advised against reprisals as government is dealing with the situation.
Those injured have been taken to general hospital in Mangu and are responding to treatment.
