The Chairman, House Committee on Health, Plateau State House of Assembly (PLHA) and member representing Langtang North Central , Hon Daniel, Nanbol Listick has raised the alarm of yellow fever disease outbreak .
In a press statement made available to Thisage on Friday, Listick confirmed that many people are infected already and called for urgent attention from the state government and doctors.
According to him, “It has been confirmed by Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (Nigeria) that there is yellow fever outbreak in Plateau State”.
“Yellow fever is a disease caused by a virus that is spread through mosquito bites. Symptoms take 3-6 days to develop and early signs include fever, chills, headache, backache and muscle aches.”
Daniel stressed that about 15 per cent of people who get yellow fever develop severe illness that can lead to bleeding, shock, organ failure and sometimes death.
He said “As representative of the people of Plateau State, we wish to aver that we are all at risk for yellow fever.
“We need to protect ourselves by getting yellow fever vaccines if we have not been vaccinated and prevent mosquito bites. We need to also keep our environment clean because Health is wealth”
