Former Chief Whip, Abia State House of Assembly, Hon Mba Ukaha has said that re-electing Governor Okezie Ikpeazu in 2019 would be an honour to former governor Theodore Orji for his insistence on equity in the governance of the state.
Ukaha stated this in an interview with our correspondent after declaring his intention to run for Arochukwu/Ohafia Federal Constituency in the National Assembly in the election in his residence in Asaga Ohafia, Ohafia Local Government Area.
He said the insistence had been in line with the Abia Chapter of Equity, which stipulates the rotation of the office of the governor among the three senatorial districts of the state for peaceful co-existence and harmony.
“On his part, the governor has in less than three years in office performed creditably well so much so that he has made the economy of the state one of the strongest in the South East,” he further stated.
Calling for massive support for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the forth coming general election, he carpeted the All Progressives Congress (APC), for failing to deliver on its campaign promises.
According to Ukaha, who represented Ohafia South State Constituency from 2007-2015, “there is a grand plan by the APC to Islamise the country,” which he said must be vehemently resisted by Nigerians.
“This is the time for us to challenge those behind the plot. We must speak up against those who are bent on abolishing Christian Religious Studies (CRK) in our schools,” said the former member representing Ohafia South State constituency.
He maintained that if elected and backed with his past experience, he would address the numerous challenges facing the constituency which he said had remained unattended to by successive administrations.
The one-time chairman of the House Committee on Chieftaincy, Anti-Corruption and Due Process, said the challenges include lack of federal presence and social amenities, youth unemployment, infrastructure decay, and erosion menace.
Declaring the occasion open, Commissioner of Police, Ogbusua Ajah said the former state lawmaker had the support of the people of the area, adding that the absence of Ohafia voice in the National Assembly was no longer accepted.
Similarly, a former member of the House and Chairman, Ohafia Local Government Council, Hon Uche Ogboso and Senior Special Adviser to the governor on Grassroots Mobilisation, Chief Sergin Ibe, among others threw their weight behind Ukaha.
