Governor of Kaduna state, Mallam Nasir el-Rufai, has stated that though his party, the governing All Porgressives Party, APC, lost his Ungwan Sarkin Polling Unit 001 to the rival Peoples Democratic Party, in the just concluded Local Government election in the state, democracy has won.

The PDP candidate for chairmanship defeated the APC candidate by a vote of 86 to 62 at the polling unit.

Likewise, the councillorship candidate defeated the APC candidate with a vote of 100 to 53.

Speaking on Channels TV programme, Sunrise Daily on Monday, el-Rufai, bragged that the outcome in his unit showed APC did not manipulate the e-voting machines during the election in the state.

El-Rufai said: “Those that reported that the machines were programmed were ashamed when it was reported that APC lost in my polling unit. People were laughing that I lost my polling unit, but it is democracy that won.

“I’m not on the ballot, so it is not a referendum on me, it is a referendum on the councillor and the performance of the chairman of the local council.

“The loss of my polling unit shows that we did not program these machines; we did not influence our independent electoral commission, and the whole thing has worked very well.”
