The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has declared a former Minister of Power and Steel, Olu Agunloye, wanted over alleged $6 billion fraud.
The anti-graft agency, in a post on its verified Facebook page, urged Nigerians who know the whereabouts of Agunloye to inform the EFCC or report to the nearest police station.
“Dr. U Agunloye is wanted by the EFCC. You know his whereabouts? Please don’t hesitate to inform the EFCC or the nearest Police Station,” the post reads.
The Commission said it had invited Agunloye for questioning over his role in the $6 billion Mambilla hydropower contract.
Agunloye who served under President Olusegun Obasanjo from 1999 to 2003 was accused of mismanaging the power project. Obasanjo said Agunloye failed to brief him on the state of the project.
Obasanjo had accused Agunloye of fraudulently awarding the contract for the power project to Sunrise Power and Transmission Ltd, without the approval of the Federal Executive Council (FEC).
Earlier, the EFCC quizzed the former minister over the controversy and a suspicious payment that was reportedly traced to his bank account.
