Dstv has been hacked and all channels are free and available now. Unlike the twitter handle of a government agency, the National Broadcasting Commission, NBC, which was hacked by anonymous, no group has claimed responsibility.
The satellite broadcast service provider has been having a running battle with Nigerians over prohibitive hike in tariff and during the week Rep Unyiwe Idem, the Chairman, House of Representatives Ad Hoc Committee investigating the non-implementation of PAYGO Tariff on Monday in Abuja, threatened to invoke relevant sections of the Constitution to force MutiChoice, the company, to implement the Pay-as you-go system, which the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of MultiChoice Nigeria Limited, Mr John Ugbe, told the lawmakers was an impossible task given the rising cost of business occasioned by hike in electricity tariff, pump price of petrol and forex.
In a terse statement the company simply said, it is offline and undergoing maintenance and system upgrade which will last between 11:pm on 7th to 4:pm on 19th October. “Our Services are Currently offline. All self-service platforms are not available during this period.” it said.
