Senator Mao Ohuabunwa has applauded former Senate Deputy President, Ike Ekweremadu for his magnanimity by forgiving the members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) who attacked him in Germany.
Ohuabunwa spoke to Thisage in Umuahia, the Abia state capital against the backdrop of the statement by Ikweremadu that he had forgiven the attackers and put the incident behind him.
The former Senator for Abia North district said the attack was unfortunate especially for such a leader who had ensured that Ndigbo are protected and respected both within and outside the country.
He said by the act, the Senator representing Enugu West district in the Red Chambers of the National Assembly has shown he is in politics to better the lives of the constituents and the country.
According to the onetime member of the House of Representatives (1999-200), the attack might be a discouragement to most Igbo leaders that would want to stick out their necks and defend Igbo leaders.
He said, “There are leaders working against Igbo interest and you know them; definitely not Ekweremadu who had always been a voice for Ndigbo. The act is condemnable.
Expressing worry over the reaction of those who have been celebrating the attack, he argured that there were so many methods the members would have used to escort from the scene and not by violent.
