Mrs Ene Obi, ActionAid Country Director in Nigeria
ActionAid Nigeria has attributed causes of human trafficking especially amongst women and girls worldwide to poverty, high level of insecurity and poor educational background.
This was contained in a statement signed by the Country Director of the organization, Ene Obi, and made available to journalists in Lokoja to commemorate the World Day Against Trafficking In Persons.
The Country Director who noted that ActionAid Nigeria as a human rights organisation will not relent in working for the wellbeing of the poor and vulnerable groups in the society as well as promotion of their rights and empowerment, called for a multi-sectoral approach and collaboration to tackle the menace.
Ene Obi also called on government at all levels and citizens of nations across the globe to join hands in tackling human trafficking.
She advocated that efforts should be made by government and citizens to identity the main causes of poverty in the society with a view to finding lasting solution to the problem.
The Country Director further advised that working to ensure that every Nigerian, especially women and girls, has opportunity to live a life of dignity and make social progress should be the focus of all and sundry.
