The Plateau State Police Command of the Nigeria Police Force has refuted reports of a bomb explosion in Jos, urging the public to disregard the rumors causing widespread panic.
In an official statement, Police Public Relations Officer, Alfred Alabo, clarified that the command had received a report about a shallow hole suspected to contain an improvised explosive device along Murtala Mohammed Way, beside the old JUTH fence.
The discovery led to immediate concern among citizens.
“Upon receiving this report, the Plateau State Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel Adesina, directed the Area Commander (Metro) and the Officer in Charge of the Command’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Unit Anti-Bomb Squad to mobilize bomb technicians to the location.
“They collaborated with the Divisional Police Officer of ‘C’ Division to thoroughly assess the situation,” Alabo stated.
The statement said that the police team swiftly cordoned off the area, and a thorough examination by the EOD specialists confirmed the hole was safe and free of any explosive materials.
It added that the Commissioner of Police, along with members of his management team, visited the scene to conduct an on-the-spot assessment, further confirming the absence of any threats to public safety.
The command, however, urged citizens to remain calm and vigilant while relying only on verified information from the police.
