In his second update on the ongoing voting at the presidential and national assembly election, Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Professor Mahmood Yakubu disclosed that voting would be postponed in Edo and Bayelsa states.
He said the Commission has to take the decision based on insecurity in some places in Bayelsa State and the absence of the logo of one of the political parties contesting the National Assembly election in Edo state.
Giving the second update on the conduct of the ongoing poll on Saturday at the National Collation Center in Abuja, the INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu said voting in four wards involving 141 polling units in Bayelsa State will take place on Sunday, February 26 while the affected three local governments in Edo State will take their turn on Saturday, March 11, 2023.
While disclosing that the logistics challenges earlier noted in Abia, Imo and Kebbi states have been resolved and voting has commenced there until last accredited voters have voted, he added that the Commission has recovered BIVAS facilities lost to attackers in some areas in Delta, Katsina and Anambra states.
On the terrorist’s attack on INEC facilities in Gwoza, Borno State, Yakubu said from information by the military no serious damage and destruction of the Commission’s office took place to cause the postponement of the electoral process.
