An Inspector of Police was at the early hours of Friday, short dead by hoodlums who attacked Okehi Police Station in Kogi state.
A statement made available to Journalists by the Kogi Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP William Aya, said that the Officer was killed during the exchange of gun fire with the attackers of the Okehi Area Command.
The attackers, according to the statement, fled before the Area Commander and a detachment of Military in the area reinforced to the scene of the incident.
Aya said that following the development, the Kogi State Commissioner of Police, CP Edward Egbuka, has visited the scene for on-the-spot assessment and ordered immediate deployment of additional operational assets consisting of Operatives of the Police Mobile Force, Counter Terrorism Unit, Quick Response Unit, State Intelligence Bureau in synergy with other security agencies to restore normalcy in the area.
The CP, Aya said has assured that the Command is committed to working in synergy with other security agencies as well as patriotic stakeholders to make the State a safe and secure place for all and sundry.
He further tasked the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) to commence investigations into the unfortunate incident so as to unravel the remote and immediate cause of the attack with a view to bringing the perpetrators to book.
Similarly, the Kogi state Governor, Yahaya Bello, has directed the State Security Adviser, Jerry Omodara to work in synergy with the security agencies with a view to tracking down perpetrators of the dastardly act.
