Gov Lalong
Tension is mounting in Plateau State following Wednesday swearing-in of 4 Local Government Committee Chairmen and Secretaries by Governor Simon Bako Lalong.
The affected LGAs are Jos North, Jos South, Riyom and Barking Ladi.
The Plateau State House of Assembly, PLHA, confirmed the reconstitution of the management.
It was gathered that the supporters of other political parties in the state are expressing their displeasure with the development as they had conducted primaries for their candidates in the expectation that an election would be conducted into the LGAs.
However, the Langtang North LGC, Joshua Laven Ubandoma of the People Democratic party ,PDP, alongside the Chairmen of Riyom, Jos North, Jos South, and Barkin Ladi had held a press conference in Jos last weekend to alert the public to what they claimed was the intension of the government to “impose unelected caretaker committees against the wish of the electorate in the affected local governments”.
During the local government election in August 2019, poll into the 4 LGs in was first postponed on the grounds of insecurity and when later conducted by the Plateau Independent State Electoral Commission, PLAISEC, the results were declared inconclusive, leaving the opposition PDP, which claimed it had won the elections, to go to court. Political parties are keeping mum over the matter for now.
The Committee chairmen and secretaries include the following persons ;
(1) Riyom Mafeng Gwallson as Chairman while Ishaku Mangtu Hyat as Secretary
2) Jos South LGC…Dachung Yohanna as Chairman and Took Gyang Badung as Secretary
(3) Jos North LGC….Shehu Bala Chairman and Solomon Danshitu as Secretary
(4) Barking Ladi….Barr Ezekiel Mandyau Chairman and Capt Rwang Dusu as Secretary They are to serve for three months.
