The Special Adviser to Governor Caleb Mutfwang on Political matters, Chief Latep Dabang has disclosed that the creation of state police is not the solution to the lingering crises and incessant attacks ravaging the country.
Dabang made this disclosure during an exclusive interview with some journalists at his Utang residence in Jos North Local Government Council of Plateau state.
Describing the insecurity situation in the country as lamentable, Dabang submits that though agitation for the creation of state police has reached national prominence, there was every likelihood that politicians would hijack the outcome and worsen the problem.
His observations are coming on the heels of Thursday meeting between President Bola Tinubu and governors at the presidential villa, Abuja, where the creation of state police with the constitutional assistance by the National Assembly was muted and agreed upon.
Dabang, however, charged the federal government to recruit more federal policemen and women and ensure they are only properly trained and equipped to ensure the safety of lives and properties of citizenry in the country.
According to him, the killings and attacks will stop “and today we might be crying and tomorrow we might complain that what really went wrong again. Understanding the intricacies of democratic governance and inclusion of the people is a problem.
On the delayed swearing of the Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly as well as old members of the legislatives arm, he said there was nothing deliberate about it but it had to do with restraining order served by the law court.
According to him, the Speaker was only respecting the court order to ensure that due process was followed in the discharge of his duties.
