With 139 medals haul, team Delta is toping the medals table at the ongoing National Sports Festival in Abuja.
Delta is followed in the second place by the Rivers team with 89 medals, while Edo comes third with 59 medals, Kano fourth with 51 medals and Lagos fifth with 58 medals, comprising mostly bronze. Delta State governor, Ifeanyi Okowa had promised to pay N1m for each won at the 19th Sports Festival and enticing prices for other medal at a reception for the state team before their departure for Abuja.
Twelve sporting activities have so far been concluded, including table tennis, Judo, Kung Fu, weightlifting and athletics.
Events taking place Thursday are Badminton and Chess while semi-finals of the football event would hold tomorrow with team Bayelsa taking on the FCT while Lagos State will square off with Nasarawa State. 7,227 athletes from the states are participating in the events that ends on December 19.
