The presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Barrister Adewole Adebayo has disclosed his commitment and desire to deliver Nigeria from what he said is the bad leadership, corruption that had bedeviled all the sectors of the economy.
Adebayo spoke at the new auditorium of the National Institutes for Policy and Strategic studies, NIPSS, Kuru in Jos, Plateau State on Thursday during an interactive session with the theme; “Critical Transitions from Apologetics of Nationhood to Elite Consensus around Fundamental Objectives and Directive Principles of State Policy.”
He promised to reduce poverty in Nigeria which he said was in line with the principles of the social democratic tradition across the world.
According to him, the party was determined to contest all seats in the upcoming general election with governorship candidates in the 36 states of the country, 109 senatorial candidates, 360 Representatives candidates and others for states Houses of Assembly.
Speaking to the theme of the gathering, he said that he has been inspired by Chapter 2 of the 1999 Constitution which states that sovereignty belongs to the people and called on the electorate to wisely vote for competence devoid of any sentiment which would favour an SDP administration, enabling the party to provide the needed leadership to salvage the country from the current social and economic problems it was afflicted.
He said the party would provide more opportunities for the youths and secure the country’s borders through a concrete security plan, saying that the problems of insecurity were as a result injustice, lopsided employment and the insecurity.
Barr. Adebayo said, “If you go around some areas at night, you’ll see some people sleeping everywhere on the streets, “If you go to the hospitals, you will see patients are all over on the floor, no bed, only one doctor with thousands of patients. If elected on February 25, 2023, our administration shall address these issues headlong.
“Nigeria is a blessed country. We have resources, we have professionals, if we can put our house together, all of these things we are seeing, we’ll not be seeing them.”
“We are here to assure you of all the plans that we have set out and assure you that when we get there we’re going to achieve them. We know it’s going to be difficult, but we will achieve them by the grace of God.”
In his remarks, the Director General NIPSS, Professor Ayo Adedeji commended the Barr.Adebayo for demonstrating leadership by example and displaying a manifesto that touches the well-being of the citizens.
He appealed to other candidates to take advantage of the peaceful and conducive atmosphere of the institute to sell their manifesto to Nigerians.
According to him, Plateau state remains a safe haven for all the categories of campaign activities.
He said, “I must say that I am touched by your plan and your vision, so I pray that God will help you to accomplish your race.”
