…Government to open Sunday market to address rising cost of food stuff

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has announced a 25 per cent rebate on fares for government-owned transport schemes.
The governor also announced that civil servants from levels 1-14 will begin to work three days a week as part of measures to ease the economic challenges of residents.
Sanwo-Olu disclosed this on Thursday, during a live media chat to intimate residents of steps being taken to reduce the economic burden on Lagosians.
He said workers in the teaching sector will, however, maintain the five days a week work schedule but the government will ensure additional transport support for them.
He also spoke on the biting hunger in the land.
“To address rising food prices, Lagos Government will be opening a Sunday Market across the State to sell food items at affordable rates. Lagosians will be able buy commodities not above N25,000 threshold. This will happen in five Sundays.”
He gave insight into what the state would do should the national assembly and government give approval for state police.
According to the governor, men of the Lagos Neighborhood Safety Corps (LNSC), a uniformed security agency established by a law of the Lagos State House of Assembly in 2016, would be pulled out to join state police.
Sanwo-Olu said, “I am an advocate for it. I believe we needed it like yesterday. And the interesting thing is that we have the Neighborhood Watch and it is still functional, about 6,000 of them. The good news is that I have given approval for us to recruit additional 4,000 of them. And this is job for our youths, our able-bodied men.
“What that means for me is that if they give approval for state police, I have 10,000 men that I can further train and get them ready and these are people that know the entire community, the nooks and crannies. I am waiting for it.”
