The Oyo State Government and a private firm have signed a Memorandum of Understanding on the generation of 1,000 megawatt of electricity.
The MoU was signed at the Executive Council Chambers of the Governor’ s office in the presence of some senior government officials.
Speaking, Governor Abiola Ajimobi said generation of alternative power sources has been part of the transformation agenda of his administration which he also described as a major element of development.
In his remark, the representative of one of the partnering firms, Mr. Nasiru Giwa said Oyo State alone could not consume the entire megawatt, saying the state would also be exporting electricity to the national grid.
The Chief Operating Officer of the West Africa energy, a partner in the power generation, Mrs. Ololade Oresanwo, said over 10,000 direct jobs would be provided.
The Alternative power generation project is expected to take off soonest.
