The Nigeria Police Command in Abia state has recorded several successes in the last nine months since the assumption of office of the present Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ene Okon.
A summary of achievements recorded by the command during the period issued by the commissioner indicates that the command charged 258 suspects before different courts.
A statement containing the achievements which is in our possession shows that the command arrested 96 suspected armed robbers, 102 kidnappers, 128 cultists, and 20 motorcycle snatchers.
Others are rescuing of 57 kidnap victims, and recovering of 18 motorcycles, 53 stolen vehicles, 110 firearms, and 212 ammunitions, according to the statement.
At a press briefing recently, Okon said he and his officers and men are in the state to serve in line with their calling, adding that the command is poised to fight crime and criminality to a stand still.
He maintained that the command has initiated adequate security measures to protect lives and property before, during, and after the Yuletide, saying the people have nothing to fear.
Okon, who expressed confidence in the commitment of men and officers of the command in the agenda, assured that it will be pursed according to the rules of engagement and international best practice.
The commissioner said on their part, the people owe it as a duty to provide the police with vital information about the presence, movements, and operations of suspected criminals within their domain.
According to him, security is every bodies business that should not be left in the hands of the security agencies alone especially in this age of use of advanced and sophisticated gadgets in every aspect of life.
