The Kogi State Command of the Nigerian Police Force has confirmed the killing of Pastor Sunday Fagbejo by hoodlums along Lokoja- Kabba Road on Saturday.
A statement by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Williams Aya, which was made available to newsmen in Lokoja on Saturday, said that the hoodlums shot the pastor dead while traveling on the route precisely between Oshokosho-Agbede Area.
The statement explained that some armed hoodlums forced to stop one Nissan Sunny Tax driven by one Sani Samaila conveying six passengers from Lokoja to Kabba area, on sighting the hoodlums, the victim was shot on the stomach as the driver attempted to reverse.
The Police Patrol Team from 70PMF Squadron, Kabba according to the statement who heard the gun shots immediately raced to the scene of the incident for rescue but the hoodlums on sighting them fled to the bush.
It added that others who sustained severe injuries were immediately rushed to the Specialist Hospital, Lokoja for treatment.
Meanwhile, the Kogi State Commissioner of Police, Ayuba Ede Ekpeji has ordered for an intensive patrol along the road to curtail further attack on motorists.
The commissioner however, has called on the people of the state to collaborate with the Police and other security agencies in sharing useful information on suspicious object or movement within their neighbourhood.
He affirmed that the Police would not relent in its constitutional responsibility to protect the lives and property of the innocent citizens despite all odds in the task of discharging their duties
