Violence broke out in the cold tin city of Jos on Sunday afternoon following what some locals say was the murder of Miango boy, who went to barbing saloon but was attacked by some miscreants.
The locals said heavy gunshots were heard in the affected areas for hours but authorities are yet to confirm the real cause of the clash.
Meanwhile, the Plateau State Peace Agency’s Mr. Joseph Lemgmang confirmed the deployment of troops to the troubled areas and assured residents of government presence to put the situations under control.
Plateau State Police Command of the Nigeria Police Force, have confirmed fresh disturbances in the Dutse Uku, Rikkos and Cele Bridge communities in the LGA.
“We have mobilised our personnel to the area. As we speak, the Area Commander Jos Metro is on ground there,” State Police Public Relations Officer, Tyopev Tema, disclosed. He however called for vigilance and relevant security information.
A lawmaker representing Jos North, North Constituency, Hon Ibrahim Baba-Hassan has appealed for calm among the people of Jos North Local Government Area of the state.
In an interview with our correspondent in Jos, Baba-Hassan condemned the uprising resulting in the loss of lives and properties.
He said the earlier reported of skirmishes in Jos North have been brought under controlled.
Baba-Hassan said the people of Jos North have been known for their peaceful co-existence and frowned at the mayhem whereby some miscreants took advantage to create unnecessary conflict.
