The embattled Chairman of Jos South Local Government Council of Plateau State, Hon.Gideon Dangdereng Davou has alerted the Federal Government and international community that the problems of incessant attacks in Nigeria especially the Plateau communities is triggered by mining exploitation and land grabbing.
Davou stated this during an interview with journalists at the Plateau State High Court premises after the adoption of final written addresses in a suit between him and Musa Bagos in Jos .
He said in the case of Plateau state there are influx of foreigner miners conniving with the local herders to invade areas with large deposits of solid minerals .
Davou employed the federal and state governments to carefully take survey of natural resources Plateau is endowed and harness it for the betterment of its citizens.
Gideon Davou advised that Nigerian residents in mineral areas should cultivate the habit to network as they have right in the Constitution to defend themselves within the confined of the law.
He stressed that the militias or unknown gunmen and whatever name they call themselves, are desperately in search for the mineral resources the people of Plateau and the only way they can have control over it, is to continue attacking the indigenes untill they are able to force them to abandoned their respective ancestral home and leave for the terrorists to take over their natural resources.
He however advised the affected communities in particular, and Plateau citizens in general to be alert at all times and defend themselves within the confines of the law.
Davou who contested for the seat of National House of Representatives to represent Jos South/East Federal Constituency on the platform of All Progressive Congress APC, is challenging the election of Hon. Musa Bagos of the PDP on two grounds; that the defendant was not validly nominated and sponsored and secondly that the structures that brought him on board as candidate of PDP, is illegal.
Hon. Gideon further said, “we have followed the laid down provision as far as this petition is concern and we are praying and hoping that at the end of the day, Justice will be serve in our favor.
“My appeal to my supporters is that they should be calm because there is light after the dark tunnel.”
