The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has suspended some of its members and dissolved the Ekiti State Executive Committee found guilty of anti-party activities.
According to the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, the National Working Committee (NWC), took the decision after an extensive review and consideration of the affairs of the party in line with Sections 29(2)(b) and 31(2)(e) of the Constitution of the PDP (as amended in 2017)
Those suspended with immediate effect include Senator Chimaroke Nnamani, Enugu State; Chief Chris Ogbu, Imo State.
Others are House of Representatives candidates in Ekiti State, namely, Ayeni Funso, Ekiti North, Ajijola Lateef Oladimeji, Ekiti Central, Emiola Adenike Jennifer, Ekiti South, Ajayi Babatunde Samuel, Ekiti North, Olayinka James Olallere Ekiti North I, Fayose Oluwajomilju John Ekiti Centra I, son of former Governor Ayo Fayose.
The NCW also dissolved the PDP Ekiti State Executive Committee with immediate effect.
He said; “In its place the NWC, on behalf of NEC has approved the appointment of Ekiti State Caretaker Committee to run the affairs of the Party in the State for a period of three (3) months effective from today Friday, January 20, 2023 and to function pursuant to Section 24(2) of the PDP Constitution (as amended in 2017).
“The NWC also approved the appointment of Arch. Sadiq Obanoyen as Chairman of the PDP Ekiti State Caretaker Committee.
“The PDP urges all leaders, critical stakeholders and teeming members of our Party in Ekiti State to remain united and focused on the task ahead.”
Senator Nnamani has been very vocal in his support of the candidacy of the All Progressives Congress, APC, while former Governor Ayo Fayose, whose son was one of those candidates suspended in Ekiti has been campaigning for the APC candidates in Ekiti state, and against Senator Biodun Olujimi, besides being a supporter of the Governor Nyesom Wike led G-5 governors opposed to Atiku Abubakar.
