Mr. Isaac Nkole, a chieftain of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has slammed former Abia state governor, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu over his denial of defrauding the state of N7.2b while in office.
Nkole stated this in an interview with newsmen while reacting to Kalu’s resent denial before Federal High Court in Lagos, saying the chief whip of the Senate was economical with the truth.
He wondered why Kalu, who he said did not have a recognisable successful business before becoming governor and live in a low profile estate in Aba suddenly became rich after the office.
“Before then, his company, Slok had nothing and no market/investment value. Suddenly, after, he became an owner of shipping line, a flourishing daily newspaper, and private banks in some African countries,” he said.
“I have taken a lot of time to ponder and investigate how and when he became this rich. The truth is that before 1999 all we knew is that he was telling the world that he was rich with nothing to show for it,” he said.
He alleged that the wealth followed his systematic looting of the state treasury, hijacking of intervention funds from global organizations, and local government allocations through caretaker committees.
The chief whip, who was testifying over allegations of fraud brought against them by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), had also maintained that under him, the state had no such fund.
