Wasiu Daramola, who three weeks ago smashed a formatic C-class Mercedes Benz into the gate of the palace of His Royal Majesty, the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, is still recuperating from the hospital where he was referred immediately after the gate crash. The car carries the registration number RBC 699 JA. He is currently receiving treatment for suspected mental ill health at the Ladoke Akintola University Teaching Hospital, LAUTECH, under the strict guidance of policemen.

Confirming the prolonged hospitalization, the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, in Osun State, DSP Yemisi Opalola, told THISAGE, that the suspect was taken for treatment under police protection initially at, “Police hospital for two days but had to be transferred to LAUTECH, when he continued to foam from the mouth in police cell while awaiting investigation.”

She said his doctor, parents and pastor had been involved in the case as the suspect’s behaviour showed some abnormality. “He could not recognize his mother or pastor, both of whom he kept scolding and accusing of planning to kill him. We suspect that he has some brain problem. That is why he is still undergoing treatment, which the police is still monitoring.”

Explaining further that so far nothing implicating has been found against him as the used vehicle was searched for any incriminating evidence, she stated that the police would still investigate the incident after and when the suspect is discharged from the hospital.

In his reaction, Mr Moses Olafare, Press Secretary to the Ooni, told THISAGE, that the reported assassination attempt on the life of the royal father was not only farfetched but ridiculous. “With more than 20 security guard here? Except he wanted to commit suicide.”he said.

“I think he was acting on the influence of hard drugs which were found in his care after he was apprehended by the police, bottles of hard things he was probably taking. The false story of assassination attempt probably cane from the gunshots that people in the neighbourhood heard. The shots were directed at the dog that escaped from the car when the security opened it after the suspect had been apprehended. It took some attempts before the police could bring down the dog.”

He hinted at the likelihood instability of the suspect. “At the Moore Police Station in Ile-Ife, where he was initially taken, he kept talking insanely, quoting him,“ I want my father, the Ooni to help me get visa to go to Canada,”

According to the PPRO, the state Criminal Investigation Department, CID, already has a file on the case and would proceed with the investigation once the suspect is considered fit.
