No fewer than two people were burnt beyond recognition and several goods destroyed in a multiple accident involving five trailer trucks and two J5 buses along Lokoja-Okene Highway.
The accident which occurred at about 11:00pm on Tuesday at old Zango-Idakoivo slope, Okene, had all the seven vehicles burnt to ashes, thus leading to total halt of vehicular movement.
The incident forced travelers plying okene route to pack their vehicles to avoid the fire from the burning vehicles.
It took officers of Okene Federal Road Safety Corps, FRCS, unit command, supported by members of the community, several hours to put out the fire from the burning vehicles.
Speaking on the incident, the unit commander of the FRSC Okene command, Dr. Adelaja Ogungbemi explained that the multiple accident was caused by a brake failure from one of the trailers which lost control and ran into several other vehicles, adding that the impact of the accident ignited the fire that engulfed all the vehicles involved.
He said that officers of his unit did all they could before they were able to put out the fire by 10:am on Wednesday 19th December 2018.
He then assured that his unit is making efforts to clear the obstruction created to allow free flow of vehicles.
He also charged vehicle users to ensure that their vehicles are in order before they put it on the road.
Dr. Adelaja then expressed the hope that both the federal and Kogi State Government are making efforts to fix alternative routes in the area` before the yuletide period, in order to ensure free flow of vehicles.
