Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo of Kogi state on Tuesday, gave assurance of equitable distribution of palliative made available by the federal government to cushion the effect of the current hardship faced by the people of the state.
Ododo gave the assurance while flagging off the distribution of 25 Trailer load of bags of rice provided by the federal government to the people of the state.
The governor said that the palliative are not meant for political, ethic and religious agenda promising that he will personally monitor the distribution of the commodity across the 239 wards in the state.
Governor Ododo vowed that he would not condone any act of indiscipline in the distribution of the rice.
According to the Governor “Political appointees are not to partake in the sharing of the rice as palliative have nothing to do with party affairs. It is also not for ethnic or religious purpose but largely for the downtrodden”
The Speaker of the Kogi State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Yusuf Umar who also spoke at the flag-off, commended President Ahmed Bola Tinubu for his commitment to end hunger and poverty in Nigeria.
He solicited for permanent solution to the ongoing sufferings of the people beyond palliative measures which he described as temporary alternative
“Our focus should be on how to guarantee food security through complementary roles by Nigerians towards massive food production”
Earlier, the State Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Hajiya Rabiyetu Okute disclosed that the provision of the palliative was facilitated by the federal government which she described as worthy of commendation.
She called on the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the gesture warning that the palliative were not meant to be sold.
