The Plateau chapter of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, has condemned the attack and vandalisation of offices of the Nation and Sun newspapers and what it calls the incessant attack, harassment of journalists and media organizations across the country.
The current chairman, Paul Jatau and his predecessor, Mr Katdapba Gobum are appealed to states and federal government to effectively take up measures toward protecting journalists and to fully implement the African declaration on freedom of expression.
Media organizations across the state came for a solidarity protest with placards inscribed with such words as ‘enough is enough’, ‘stop intimidation of journalists’, ‘we are not in military era’, ‘enough of impunity’
Gobum condemned the attack by miscreants of Daily Sun and The Nation newspapers by miscreants two days ago and called on state and the federal government to protect media practitioners who are going about their legitimate business reporting to make the society better and habitable.
For the vice Chairman, Mr Benjamin Mitu, the Nigeria journalists had work very hard to return this country to the path of democracy and should be spared the agony of distress.
