Contrary to market watchers expectation that profit taking among investors that have witnessed reasonable increase in their respective shares, will drag down key market indicators of the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE), transaction on Friday shows that the market went up from Monday 10 to Friday 14, July 2017, making it five working days in which the market indicators sustained its gains in the second week of July.
Analysis of Friday market activities shows that All Share Index (NSE ASI) and the Market Capitalization increased by 0.04 percent, while the Year-to-Date return stood at 23.77 percent.
The All Share Index closed at 33,261.66 against the previous close of 33,246.91 while Market Capitalization closed at ₦11.464 trillion against previous close of ₦11.459 trillion.
Volume traded increased by 7.88 percent from 288.858 million to 311.609 million, while the total value of stock traded decreased by 14.38 percent from ₦3.820 billion to ₦3.271 billion in 3,113 deals.
The Financial Services sector led the activity chart with 282.504 million shares exchanged for ₦2.06 billion. Industrial Goods came next with 10.851 million shares traded for ₦0.943 billion, Conglomerates, Oil And Gas, Consumer Goods sectors followed in that order on the activity chart.
United Bank for Africa Plc, Diamond Bank Plc, FBN Holding Plc, Niger Insurance Plc, and Zenith Bank Plc were the most active stocks by volume. Unity Bank Plc, Union Bank of Nigerian Plc, Forte Oil Plc, Beta Glass Plc and Fidson Healthcare Plc emerged the highest price gainers while Oando Plc, Linkage Assurance Plc, Conoil Oil Plc, Jaiz Bank Plc, and C & I Leasing topped the loser’s chart.
A total of 112 companies shares were traded, with 27 gainers and 15 losers while 70 stocks price did not change.
