NLC President Ajaero Receiving Treatment at FMC, Owerri

President of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, Joe Ajaero who was arrested by operatives of the Nigeria Police Force, on Wednesday in Owerri, is said to be receiving treatment at the Federal Medical Center in Owerri following alleged brutalization.

THISAGE checks show that Comrade Ajaero was earlier kept at the Police Hospital in Owerri from where he was taken to Federal Medical Centre, Owerri for further medical attention.

According to a source, “He was thoroughly brutalized, his right eye at the time of contact was completely shut .

“Ajaero who said little stated that immediately after his arrest, he was beaten up and blind-folded and taken to an unknown destination where more brutalisation took place, sometimes with bottles. ”

His phones, money and other personal effects were taken off him and are yet to  be returned as at press time.

The Head of Media at the NLC Headquarters, Benson Uper who, confirmed Ajaero’s arrest on Wednesday, had said, “President of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Comrade Joe Ajaero, was picked up a few minutes ago from NLC State Council Secretariat by heavily armed policemen in Owerri and taken to an unknown destination,”

Ajaero had vowed to mobilise members for a total strike in Imo State starting November 1, 2023.

He accused the Imo State Government of “violating the rights of the Nigerian workers in the state.”
