The Nigerian Army Council has approved the promotion of 108 senior officers to the ranks of Major General and Brigadier General in recognition of their outstanding service to the nation.
In a statement released on Friday, the Director of Army Public Relations, Major General Onyema Nwachukwu, disclosed that the promotions were ratified during the council’s meeting on Thursday.
According to Nwachukwu, 35 Brigadier Generals have been elevated to the rank of Major General, while 73 Colonels were promoted to Brigadier General.
Prominent among those promoted to the rank of Major General are,Brigadier General A. Garba, Acting Provost Marshal, Nigerian Army; Brigadier General U.M. Alkali, Deputy Chief of Administration, Directorate of Veteran Affairs; Brigadier General A.G.L. Haruna, Acting General Officer Commanding 7 Division and Commander Sector 1, North East Operation HADIN KAI; Brigadier General I.A. Ajose, Acting General Officer Commanding 8 Division and Commander Sector 2, North West Operation Fansan Yamma; Brigadier General N.B. Ebulue, Headquarters, Nigerian Army Heritage and Future Centre a C Brigadier General O.A. Awolo, Director of Military Training, Nigerian Defence Academy
Other newly promoted Major Generals include, Brigadier General O.A. Fadairo, Commander, 12 Brigade; Brigadier General V.D. Beryo, Commander, Nigerian Army Special Forces School; Brigadier General A.O.D. Okoro, Director, Army Headquarters Department of Special Services and Programmes; Brigadier General S.O. Adejimi, Director of Movement, Army Headquarters Department of Logistics
In addition, officers elevated from Colonel to Brigadier General include, Colonel S.M. Iliya, Commander, 43 Engineers Brigade; Colonel N.S. Onuchukwu, Chief Medical Director, 44 Nigerian Army Reference Hospital; Colonel A. Musa, Commander, 108 Division Equipment Support, Colonel P.A.J. Ebuk, Commander, 1 Division Supply and Transport and Colonel I.P. Omoke, Directorate of Procurement, Office of the Chief of Army Staff
The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, congratulated the newly promoted officers and their families, urging them to rededicate themselves to their duties and justify the confidence placed in them.
Oluyede emphasised the need for innovative leadership to tackle the nation’s evolving security challenges.
He said, “You must lead by example, remain committed to your oath of allegiance, and uphold unwavering loyalty to the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”
The Army Chief also charged the officers to develop “out-of-the-box” solutions to address Nigeria’s contemporary security issues, while maintaining discipline and professionalism in their service to the nation.
