Super Eagles of Nigeria flew into the finals of the Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON, after a grueling semi-final encounter with South Africa on Wednesday. The match had ended 1-1, leading to penalty kicks with Nigeria eventually carrying the day with 4-2.
A William Troost-Ekong penalty, awarded after star striker, Victor Osimhen, was brought down in the box gave Nigeria the lead until South Africa equalised late on with a penalty of their own, which was converted by Teboho Mokoena.
After a dry spell during additional 30 minutes, penalties were needed to separate both teams and decide who would face either Ivory Coast or DR Congo in the final.
Both sides traded early misses, before Leicester City striker, Kelechi Iheanacho, stroke home the winning penalty and send edgy Nigerians into joy.
The Super Eagles now stand one win away from ending their wait for a 4th AFCON glory.
