An NGO, Justice Development and Peace Commission (JDPC), has called on the political leaders across the country to always strive to justify their mandate by ensuring effective representation of their people while in government.
This was contained in a communique issued at the end of the town hall meeting on Legislative Advocacy/Inclusive Governance for improved water sanitation and hygiene organised by the Justice Development and Peace Commission for selected communities within Lokoja metropolis over the weekend.
The communique stressed the need for an improvement in the electoral system by electing political
leaders that would care for the well-being of the individuals and communities
effectively
The NGO harped on the urgent and mandatory need for elected representatives to have
functional constituency offices for continuous engagement with their people.
The communique noted that regular interactions between political leaders and their people would no doubt go a long way in identifying specific challenges of their communities with a view to finding lasting solutions.
It called for creation of employment opportunities for the youths to reduce the effects
of unemployment.
The communique frowned at poor environmental sanitation in Lokoja metropolis with a call on the people to embrace personal hygiene capable of enhancing their living conditions.
It advised Lokoja Council Area and Kogi State Government not relent in enforcing the ban on open
defecation in the state to protect the people against water borne diseases.
The Communique also warned against youth restiveness with an appeal to the future leaders to shun cultism and other vices that could ruin their lives.
Participants at the town hall meeting were drawn from Kabawa, Adankolo, Sarkin Noma and Felele communities in Lokoja metropolis.
Civil Society Organisations and the Media were also in attendance.
