As part of efforts to speed up their investigation into the death of Favour Daley-Oladele, the Lagos State University student, murdered by her lover, Owolabi Adeeko and his pastor, Segun Philips, the police has unveil plans to investigate all the churches located within Ikoyi-ile in Osun State where the corpse was exhumed on Saturday.
According to the Commissioner of Police, Mr Babatunde Kokumo, during a briefing with journalists, the state command of the Nigeria Police Force is poised to investigate all churches within the vicinity of the crime as part of moves to reassure the neighbours of their safety.
He said: “We are all aware of the gruesome killing of a student of LASU. The killing has been traced to Ikoyi-Ile.
“We have brought our homicide experts to exhume and help in the furtherance of the investigations started by the Ogun State Police Command with a view to prosecuting the suspects.
“It is a gruesome murder and the whole thing is quite horrible. We will not fold our arms and watch lawless citizens take laws into their hands, destroying people’s lives. We have been informed that we have a number of churches in this community. It is our responsibility to conduct our investigation. What we are doing is intelligence policing driven by the people’s needs.
“If the communities are making us know that they are no longer comfortable with the number of churches or the caliber of such people running the churches, then it becomes our responsibility to conduct an investigation on their activities and check them.
Pastor Philips, Owolabi Adeeko, and his mother have reportedly confessed to killing Favour for money- making purpose. Pastor Philips has confirmed Mrs Adeeko’s claims that she was unaware that the ritual meal she ate for the realisation of her get-rich-quick scheme was prepared by the dismembered parts of Favour. Her son confessed he smashed the deceased head with a mortar while the pastor admitted to cutting out the body to prepare the ‘meal’.
