Chairmen of the 21 Local Government Council Areas in Kogi and their deputies were on Tuesday empowered with an interface training on leadership roles to boost grassroots administration and enhance their productivity in office.
The two day Workshop with the Theme: “Improving Collaboration And Effective Leadership” is organized by The Centre For Women Studies And Intervention In Partnership with The Office Of The Special Adviser To Governor Yahaya Bello On Sustainable Development Goals to advance the course of extending good governance down to the grassroots level.
In his welcome address, the Special Adviser to Governor Yahaya Bello On Sustainable Development Goals, Hon. Nasir Ohiani, said the programme is targeted at improving Collaboration amongst leaders at local government level inorder to strengthen their capacity to work effectively.
The Special Adviser who was represented by his Technical Assistant, Ndi Chinweuba said that the programme will also provide an interactive forum for the Chairmen and their vice to share, explore and discuss concepts and issues related to good governance, gender equality, effective representation and widening the gap for women to engage effectively in key positions of governance.
According to the Special Adviser” At the end of this workshop, we expect an improvement in synergy and collaboration amongst you and your support for an increased representation of formidable women in governance. This Support shall be documented on a declaration form to serve as witness to comments made by your distinguished guests”
He noted that the Workshop is being implemented under the Strategic Women’s Advancement in Governance Project(SWAG) which is funded by the Catholic Agency for Overseas Development (CAFOD), Nigeria.
Speaking on behalf of Council Chairmen, the ALGON, Boss and Chairman of Ijumu Local Government Area, Taufiq Isah, described the Workshop as beneficial, worthy and a boost to their leadership qualities.
He said that this kind of programme should continue to be encouraged and put in place by both national and international agencies in the interest of boosting good governance at all levels.
He assured that they will use the knowledge acquired from the training to the benefit of the people.
He also promised that the dividends of the training would be used to ensure gender equality and empowerment of both male and female folks.
