Kogi State Internal Revenue Service, on Monday, flagged off Infrastructure Maintenance Levy Collection to keep roads across the state in good condition.
Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo of Kogi state while performing the ceremony at the Government House, Lokoja, said that the collection of the maintenance levy would be carried out via Automation Device Technology to ensure efficiency and transparency in the system.
Governor Ododo who was represented by Secretary to Government of Kogi state, Dr. Mrs Folashade Ayoade, said that the levy which is strictly meant for all categories of commercial road users is aimed at boosting revenue generation capacity of the state for accelerated development and welfare of citizens.
He noted that infrastructure maintenance levy collection is a critical task under the revenue profile of the state and promised that money generated would be judiciously utilised for the purpose intended.
“We would make good success of this collection to improve upon government revenue for delivery of democracy dividends” Ododo assured.
“I am pleased with the performance of the Chairman, Kogi Internal Revenue Service, Alhaji Sule Salihu Enehe and his management team and staff. I must also commend both motor and motorcycle unions for adopting and accepting the infrastructure maintenance levy collection”
He therefore, directed that all categories of commercial road users must support and comply strictly with maintenance levy collection warning that failure to do so would be made to face the full wrath of the law.
In his opening remarks, the Chairman of Kogi State Internal Revenue Service, Alhaji Sule Salihu Enehe, said that his organisation has been able to develop Device Technology Solution in its mandate of data capturing and registration process for effective revenue collection and removal of bottle necks and leakages.
The State’s Commissioner for Transportation, Levi Victor Atuluku, Representatives of ALGON Chairman, Abdullahi Adamu and Motor/Motorcycle unions in their separate goodwill messages called on the Infrastructure Maintenance Levy Collectors to operate without fear or favour but in line with human face.
