Police cordoned off the area of the crime
A day after policemen and women marched on Paris street over violence directed at them, a knife-wielding man has killed four officers at central police headquarters in Paris, according to French media report. The attack took place at mid-day on Thursday.
The attacker, a 45-year old man who had worked in administrative capacity for the Paris police for 20 years, was shot dead by the police.
Police sealed -off the area as President Emmanuel Macron and Prime Minister Edouard Philippe and Interior Minister Christopher Castaner arrived the scene of the incident, the courtyard of the police building.
“Police were running around in panic,” an eyewitness who was inside the courtyard at the time of the attack told Le Parisien newspaper.
“I was surprised to hear shooting because this is not a place where you hear that kind of thing. I first thought it was a suicide because there are a lot of those at the moment,” he added.
