Kano Rerun: NNPP Wins One Seat, Loses Another to APC

The New Nigeria Peoples Party has secured victory in the Bagwai/Shanono State Constituency by-election in Kano State but lost the supplementary election in Ghari/Tsanyawa Constituency to the All Progressives Congress.

Announcing the Bagwai/Shanono result on Sunday, the Returning Officer, Adamu Shitu, declared Ali Hassan Kiyawa of the NNPP winner with 16,198 votes, defeating Ahmad Muhammad Kadamu of the APC, who scored 5,347 votes.

The election followed the death of the former APC lawmaker, Halilu Ibrahim Kundila, in April 2024.

In contrast, the APC claimed victory in the Ghari/Tsanyawa supplementary election. The Returning Officer, Prof. Muhammad Waziri of Bayero University, Kano, declared Garba Ya’u Gwarmai winner with 31,472 votes, while Yusuf Ali Maigado of the NNPP polled 27,931 votes.

The supplementary election was conducted after the earlier poll in the constituency was declared inconclusive.
