Kano state government continued what it is scandalously famous for doing during elections, local or national: allowing the use of children as voters to win elections.
In the polls conducted across 44 local governments in the state on Saturday by the Kano State Independent Electoral Commission, KASIEC, minors were accredited to vote alongside adults in clear violation of the electoral act.
The crime was merely a repetition of what has always happened during any election conducted in the state, particularly since the 2015 general election up till now.
In 2018 when similar footage showed underage persons voting reportedly during the Kano local government polls, the state Commissioner of Information, Muhammad Garba, passed the blame to the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC, for giving the voter register to KAISEC, adding that the footage dated back to 2015 election.
“What you have seen in the video clip showing underage kids voting, did not happen now. It was recorded during the last 30 March 2015 elections,” he had said.
Mr. Garba blamed, “mischievous persons were behind the spreading of the clips but were missing out in the whole game because what was therein the video happened in 2015.”
Even, the KANSEIC chairman, Ibrahim Sheka, dismissed the clip.
The current photos are quite self-explanatory as accreditation officer are seen wearing facemasks, a COVID-19 preventive. Despite reactions from Nigerian on social media, the Kano government has kept mum.
