Kano State Government is to spend the sum of N10 million to sponsor a capacity-building retreat for members of the Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Kano State Council.
The Director-General of Media and Publicity to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, announced the gesture at the second edition of the Tea Break session of the chapel held at the Kano NUJ Conference Hall on Monday.
Dawakin Tofa said the money, which had been approved by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, would be used to fully fund the retreat to cover expenses, including transportation, accommodation, feeding and stipends for participants.
He also announced the donation of another N10 million by the State Government as support to the chapel to enable it to run its activities, including assistance to vulnerable members.
The Director-General then expressed appreciation to members of the chapel for their impressive coverage of the State Government’s activities, and urged them to sustain the feat.
Earlier, the Chairman of the chapel, Alhaji Murtala Adewale, explained the objective of the Tea Break, which he said included the creation of a conducive atmosphere for members to unwind and relax after their reportorial rigours.
Adewale said the Tea Break Initiative is also a platform created for individuals, corporate organisations and political parties to deliver their messages for members of the chapel to disseminate through their various news platforms.
He thanked the Director-General for fully sponsoring the second edition of the Tea Break and prayed to Allah to reward him abundantly.
In his remarks, the immediate past Chairman of the state Council of the NUJ, Comrade Abbas Ibrahim, thanked the Director-General for donating the sum of N2.1 million for the treatment and upkeep of a veteran colleague, Lawal Isa Bagwai, who got involved in a traffic accident.
Comrade Abbas Ibrahim, who was one of the special guests at the occasion, prayed to Allah to reward the Governor’s Spokesperson abundantly.
