INEC Writes IGP to Arrest, Prosecute Adamawa REC

Rising from its meeting on Tuesday, 18th April 2023, during which matters arising from the botched Adamawa governorship election was discussed, the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, decided to the write the Inspector-General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba for the immediate investigation and possible prosecution of the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for Adamawa State, Barr. Hudu Yunusa Ari.

Ari had on Sunday, April 16 usurped the role of the Returing Officer for the poll to announce Senator Aisha Dahiru popularly known as Binani as governorship- elect while collation of results from the remaining 10 local governments were been awaited.

The  electoral umpire also requested the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha to draw the attention of the appointing authority to the unwholesome behaviour of the REC for further action.

It declared that the collation process shall resume at a time to be determined by the Returning Officer.
