The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has invited the Chairman of Dangote Industries Limited (DIL), Aliko Dangote, to appear before a panel of investigators in Abuja on Monday.
The invitation follows a petition submitted by the business mogul alleging corruption, abuse of office, and financial impropriety against the former Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), Engr. Farouk Ahmed.
In the petition dated December 16, 2025, Dangote urged the anti-graft agency to investigate claims that the former NMDPRA chief misused his office for personal gain in violation of extant laws and ethical standards governing public officers.
Engr. Ahmed, who resigned as head of the petroleum regulatory authority on December 17, 2025, is accused of actions inconsistent with the Code of Conduct for Public Officers and the provisions of the ICPC Act.
The allegations include claims of unlawful spending of public funds and corrupt enrichment while in office.
Dangote has called on the ICPC to examine the source of funds allegedly used for high-value personal expenditures, arguing that such spending cannot be reasonably reconciled with earnings from a career in public service.
Specifically, the petition accuses Ahmed of paying $5 million in school fees to Swiss secondary schools for his four children over a six-year period. Dangote noted that such costs raise serious questions about integrity, conflicts of interest, and regulatory oversight in the downstream petroleum sector.
A source close to the commission confirmed the development on Sunday in Abuja, disclosing that the ICPC has constituted a panel of crack investigators to probe the allegations.
The ICPC Chairman, Musa Aliyu, SAN, has reportedly directed the panel to prioritize the petition and ensure a thorough and impartial investigation.
Dangote is expected to appear before the panel or be represented by his lawyer, Ogwu Onoja, SAN, to submit relevant documentary evidence as the formal investigation commences.
