A Plateau lawmaker has alleged the killing of over 70 persons of Irigwe origin by suspected herders numbering to over 200 when they invaded three settlement’s in Kangboro in Riyom Local Government, on Monday.
The lawmaker, Musa Agah Avia who represents Rukuba /Irigwe constituency, while speaking with our correspondent, condemned the “incessant attacks with the renew killings of innocent and harmless civilians who are murdered by the sponsored assailants.”
He said: “as a member of the state House of Assembly, I have raised alarm over insecurity bedevilling the communities where constant attack occur. I am appealing to government to consider the plight of the people of Irigwe land and put a stop to the killings.
He urged the Governor Simon Lalong to take proactive measures to put an end to the lingering crisis that may further trigger other crisis because, “land grabbing in Kigam and destruction of crops, animals in the carnage would affect the economy of the people.”
Supporting his position, President of the Irigwe association, Chinge Ayuba and his secretary, John Gospel Gana said the “assailants arrived the community on motorbikes in Kangboro village in Riyom Local Government Area that fateful Monday between 11 and noon, shooting shooting sporadically, mowing crops and burning houses.
“Men of the vigilante group in the community who tried to resist the attackers were overpowered.
“The attackers burnt down the entire village as no house was left including the government clinic situated in the hamlet.
As at the time of filing this report the number of casualties is yet to be known as rescue operations are still ongoing.
Unconfirmed report said a soldier lost his life in the gun battle with the assailants.
