A youth based group, Youths For Youths Leadership and Peace Advancement Initiative, YYLPAI, Edo State chapter, has cautioned political gladiators in the state against using the youths to forment trouble and cause mayhem during the Governorship campaign and after the election on the 19th September, 2020.
In a statement signed by the Chairman, Comrade Enike Peter Oleghe, and Secretary, Comrade Godwin Aisien, to newsmen after their Exco meeting in Benin, the group vowed to do all what is humanly possible to prevent youths from being used by politicians in order to derail the electoral process.
“We shall not tolerate a situation where the youths would be used and dumped by desperate politicians to achieve their selfish and devilish goals”.
The statement strongly condemned unequivocally the recent attacks involving mostly youths at the front of Oba’s palace, such conduct must never be allowed to happen again.
According to the statement, the Chairman advised youths to be wary of greedy and lie-lie politicians, whose stock in trade are to cause crisis and conflict to settle scores.
“We are using this opportunity to sound a note of warning to the Candidates to desist from using hate speeches and focus more on issues devoid of mudslinging and character assassination.”
With less than two months to the Edo gubernatorial election, the two leading candidates, Governor Godwin Obaseki of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and his main challenger, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu of the All Progressive Congress, APC, have been at each other’s jugular in their efforts to convince the people for votes.
The statement quoted Comrade Enike Oleghe as promising not to relent in ensuring that the youths in Edo State comport themselves peacefully and orderly during the electioneering period, while thanking the security agents for good conduct so far
