The Supreme Court ruling which granted the prayers of the legal team for PDP and it’s governorship candidate in the 2019 general elections, Gen. Senator Jeremiah Useni, has set the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, on overdrive.
The legal team had challenged the judgment of the Court of Appeal in Jos, which overruled the decision of the lower Tribunal allowing petitioner’s witnesses who were not listed in the petition to testify during the trial.
The Supreme Court also dismissed the preliminary objections raised by Governor Lalong and APC.
This judgment is to be served on the 3-man Tribunal before they deliver their final judgment on or before October 9, 2019.
Reacting to the ruling, the APC in Plateau State stated that there was a deliberate misinterpretation of the recent Supreme Court judgment, allowing the State Gubernatorial Election Tribunal to make use of the evidence of the PDP and it’s candidate in the last election despite the fact that the witness was not listed among those to testify as required by law.
The state secretary Bashiru Musa-Sati statement called on supporters of the APC to disregard such insinuation as baseless rumour.
He said: “This does not mean any victory to PDP or it’s candidate at the Tribunal as some overzealous elements bent on misleading their supporters are speculating. It only means the statement of that PDP witnesses will be considered and our lawyers be allowed to cross examine them on his testimony to test it’s veracity. So there is no course for any concern.
“With this we call on our teaming supporters and good people of Plateau State to remain calm and law abiding as their mandate is still intact and nothing will temper with it by the Grace of God.
“We remain confident of victory at the Tribunal, which will serve as added tonic for the APC and Lalong administration to continue the good work we have been doing in putting our dear state back on the map of first generation states in the country.
