Results from the governorship primaries conducted by the some of the political parties in some states across the country yesterday show that all the current governors of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, were re-elected in the party primaries held in the various states the party currently holds sway, namely, Enugu, Akwa Ibom, Abia, Rivers, Delta , Cross River, Rivers, Ebony, Tarabai and Benue states. Parallel primaries were held in Ogun, Borno, Oyo, Adamawa, while in Niger Umar Muhammad Nasko, emerged the PDP candidate.
For the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC,the incumbent Deputy Governor of Sokoto State, Alhaji Ahmad Aliyu, has emerged flag-bearer of the party for the 2019 governorship election.
He scored 2,282 votes to bit his closest rival, Alhaji Faruk Yabo, who scored 837 votes during the election. Alhaji Abubakar Gumbi, got 70 votes, while Sen. Abubakar Gada, had 20 votes.
Incumbent governor of Katsina State, Aminu Masari beat two rivals to emerge the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Katsina State for the 2019 election
Masari scored 5,562 votes out of a total 5,627 votes cast at the primary to emerge winner during the election.
His rivals, Alhaji Abubakar Ismail Funtua, got eight votes, while Alhaji Garba Dankane, had only one vote.
In another primary held by the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Katsina, Sen. Lado Danmarke picked the party ticket for the 2019
He defeated five other aspirants that included Alhaji Ahmad Yar’adua and former state deputy governor, Alhaji Abdullahi Faskari, Alhaji Musa Nashuni, Alhaji Umar Tata and Alhaji Sada Ilu.
Danmarke scored 3,385 votes to emerge winner, Yar’adua got 243 votes, while Faskari and Nashuni had only one vote each.
In Plateau State, where the APC had only one aspirant in the person of incumbent govern Simon Lalong, he was duly returned unopposed in the primary conducted on Saturday.
In a motion moved by the Speaker, Plateau State House of Assembly, Joshua Madaki and seconded by ex-d/Governor, Pauline Tallen, delegates showed the neatly arranged ballot boxes and used voice vote to affirm the incumbent governor as the candidate to run to party ticket in 2019 .
In the primary conducted by the rival PDP, Senator Jeremiah Useni, emerged the party’s governorship candidate .
Useni will face incumbent governor Simon Bako Lalong, 20 years his junior. Useni polled 1018 out of the 2,097 votes at stake to defeat 12 other candidates at the party’s primaries. His closest rival Johnbull Shekarau got 340 votes.
