Youths who vandalized drug warehouses in Kaduna and Edo states have been warned to return the medicament as they could be dangerous when taken without prescription besides the fact that the drugs are different from COVID-19 palliatives, which are food items.
In Benin-City, the Edo state capital where Governor Godwin Obsaeki and the Minister of health, Osagie Ehanire, went on an inspection the looted drug house on Medial Store Road on Saturday evening, the governor described what he saw as an act of wickedness.
“Hundreds of medicaments have been destroyed and looted. These are medical supplies meant for our hospitals, where most of the poor go for treatment. This is wicked. People who are doing this have gone beyond the intention of the protesters,” he lamented on Sunday.
For the Minister of Health, Ehanire; “Many of the vaccines approved for treatment and other drugs were taken away. This would pose a setback for the health system in the state.” They appealed to the looters to return the drugs.
In Kaduna where the drug warehouse belonging to the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, NAFDAC, was vandalized by rampaging youths searching for palliatives, Deputy governor of the state, Hadjia Hadiza Sabuwa Balarabe vowed that the youths would be fished out and punished, describing the looting as unnecessary.
“We will not tolerate this looting. We will fish them out. We have leaders in the local governments and traditional rulers who know these youths and they will help us fish them out.” A visibly angry, said, adding, ”this is not a protest but something else.”
