Ghanaian President -elected, Akufo Addo
Ghana’s Electoral Commission had declared incumbent President Nana Akufo-Addo of the National Patriotic Party, NPP re-elected for a second term of four years.
The NPP candidate poll 51.59 percent of valid votes cast as against John Mahama of the National Democratic Congress, NDC, who poll 47.36 percent.
In total Akufo-Addo polled 6,730,413 votes whilst John Mahama secured 6,214,889 votes; Over 17 million eligible voters participate for the election, reportedly described as peaceful.
The declared results were without those from Techiman South Constituency where there were reported shooting and snatching of ballot boxes during collation.
Ghana EC Chairperson, Jean Mensa said even if the total number of Techiman South voters of 128,018, were added to Maham’s results, it will not change anything.
A Presidential winner in Ghana must obtain not less than 50% +1 of the total valid votes cast, the Electoral Commission, Chairperson Jean Mensa said on Tuesday morning
In a replay of history, Mahama who defeated Akufo-Addo in 2012, has been defeated for a consecutive second tome by Akufo-Addo, first in 2016 and in 2020.
