INTRODUCTION
In everyday life, law can be seen as a rule or set of agreed-upon rules, customs, traditions, and orders by which we, an organization or a country, choose to live and govern our everyday circumstances and behavior of others. The rules are backed by court orders or juries of competent citizens in a court of law.
But in this context, we will treat the law of Christ as a divine rule, order, and commandment of moral laws laid down by divine power or God, as outlined in the Bible.
BODY
The law of Christ is typically living a life of Faith in Christ, expressed through love, to fulfill God’s moral laws. These laws are incomparable and different from natural laws, customs, and beliefs because they are enhanced by the spirit of life, which enables changes from evil to good when applied to the lives of people and communities around the world, regardless of tribes and traditions.
For that reason, the Gospel of Salvation was given to us to preach and teach around the world, after which the end shall come. (Matthew 24:14).
LIFE AND LIVING BEFORE CHRIST
The law of Christ exposes the danger of rejecting what God demands from us, in our relationship with Him, and our neighbours. (Matthew 22:37-40).
The Bible teaches us that due to the influence of fallen spirits (regardless of what some religious pundits are peddling out there) men have been worshiping God through inanimate objects made by their hands. These spirits or angels were rebels that become inimical to everything the creator God represents as concerning good versus evil.
While it is proper to say that we worship a God of justice and righteousness, these deceivers and tempters of the brethren are contrary to everything good: they are agents of anarchy and destruction.
While these fallen angels pose as angels of light, their primary purpose is to spiritually disconnect man from God and finally to eternal damnation. (2 Corinthians 11:13-15).
The Bible rightly teaches us that the blessings of false angels acting as gods, come with sorrow and it is chiefly among such reasons that Christ came, to expose and destroy the work of the devil (John 8:44, 1 John 3:8). And sad to say, two thousand years and still counting, after Christ came to redeem, justify and reconcile the world back to God, many are still in denial.
As I write and while you are reading through this write-up, the majority of the world population still worship gods through objects that they made with their hands. As long as they choose such a manner of worship, their condition and relationship with God the Creator will not change till they turn to worship a living God. (Psalms 115:2-8, Galatians 4:8, 1 Thessalonian 1:9).
God made us with a mind, free will, and the ability to choose and know what is good from bad. (Genesis 2:16-17, Deuteronomy 30:15,19-20, Joshua 24:15, Galatians 5:13). But that in no way justifies us from turning away from God.
The fact that God made us with free will and the ability to know what is good and bad, does not justify humanity from worshiping God’s adversary: the devil.
The Bible explicitly teaches us, and in reality, that whatever sacrifices that are made through those objects, are made to the devil: point blank. (1Corinthians 10:20-21)
REVELATION OF A MONOLITHIC GOD THROUGH ABRAHAM’S FOREBEARS
The Gospel is about good news. The world was in total darkness, and without God, before God finally decided to reveal Himself to the world. Though it was revealed to Abraham, the difference is that it was not preached.
But God through Abraham revealed Himself to the world further through the children of Israel till the promise and final revelation was complete in Christ.
The scriptures starting from Abraham pointed to the time when all people on earth, who obeyed the law of God shall be called God’s children. ((Genesis 12:3, Galatians 3:8, Acts 3:25-26
The law of Moses did not grant Abraham righteousness because Abraham believed without the law: it was faith in God.
Abraham’s faith was finally exemplified with faith in Christ as the redemption and justification for our sin, knowing that the law of Moses was a shadow of things to come. The law was never meant to cleanse the world from sin but through the precious blood of Christ. (Genesis 15:6, Galatians 2:16, Galatians 3:22-25, Colossians 2:17, Hebrews 10:1, 1Peter 1:19).
THE LAW OF CHRIST BEFORE ABRAHAM
The law of Christ confirms Jesus Christ is the author and prince of life that existed before all things on earth, and he fulfilled the law of Moses without contradictions, declaring on occasions, I have not come to abolish the law but to fulfill it, and before Abraham I was. (Acts 3:5, Matthew 5:17, John 8:58).
Abraham knew the glory of God was in the future when he believed in faith. We believe and follow Jesus Christ in Salvation because we know and believe that Christ is the true substance of things to come and have come, having been tremendously blessed, redeemed, justified, and gifted with the Holy Spirit of God that now dwells in us in God’s grace that keeps us out from further condemnation of sin: how wonderful. (Romans 3:21-25, Romans 8:1-4, 31-34, 37-39, Ephesians 2:5.8-9
The law of Christ predates humanity as the way to abundant life, which was finally ushered into the hearts of all persons when the New Covenant began in Christ’s fulfillment of the promise of the Holy Spirit, after his birth, death, and resurrection.
For a will or testament to be fulfilled, enforced, or enacted the testator must be dead. The Old Testament which Jesus lived by while on earth was enacted by the sprinkling of the blood of dead animals which continued till Christ once and final sacrifice. (Luke 22:20, John 14:16-1, 27, Exodus 24:6-8, Hebrews 9:16-28; 10:10; 12-18, Galatians 6:2). The truth, that was hidden in the hearts and minds of men, after centuries of darkness and wickedness of heart perpetuated by no other being, but the devil himself was finally revealed to the world in Christ Jesus.
THE TEN COMMANDMENTS OF GOD
The law of Christ is rooted in the Ten Commandments in all its reams and pattern, as regards its moral application based on what Christ did for humanity at the cross: something the law of Moses could not do. It is God finally revealing
His promise in Christ, that it is in His commandment that humanity can be able to live happier lives in His righteousness found in Christ after Salvation (2 Corinthians 5:21). What the law of Moses could not do was made possible in Christ after redemption and justification from the effect of sinful man. (Romans 8:1-9)
THE LAW OF MOSES
“The law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ. No man hath seen God at any time, the only begotten Son which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him”. (John 1:17-18). The law of Moses was do’s and don’ts that the children of Israel have to live by, as contained in the five books of Moses, generally referred to as the Pentateuch. The law was meant to practically guide the children of Israel in their daily lives till God’s promise in Christ is fulfilled, and has been fulfilled in Christ. It is quite evident, given from the scriptures that the law of Moss was meant to point man to sin: a guide to a Savior that was to come in Christ’s love. (Romans 3:9-20, Galatians 3:19-25). After Jesus Christ fulfilled the law and all its requirements and patterns in truth and sacrifice, it made the law no longer relevant for New Creatures, after our New Birth and the indwelling spirit of God that now dwells in Believers. (Matthew 5:17,2 Corinthians 5:17, Galatians 2:20-21).
To that effect, the apostle filled with the spirit of God, spoke in truth, that we have a better Covenant in Christ, and that those who chose to remain in the law must do all its requirements perfectly for it to be of any benefit to their lives. (Galatians 3:10). The law has run its course and Salvation and the grace of God found in Christ have come to achieve what the law was not capable or made to accomplish in the first place: give life (2Corinthians 3:7-11)
THE LAW OF CHRIST
The law of Christ is for true believers: persons that are closer to God and are friendly with the Holy Spirit of God that come to dwell in them after the New Birth. (Psalms 119:105, John 15:5, 1 Corinthians 6:19-20, 2 Corinthians 5:17-18, Colossians 3:16, James 4:8)
We now live under the law of Christ made possible by Christ’s precious blood that was shed on the cross. (1Peter 1:19).
The blood of Christ is far better and superior than the blood of bulls and goats which was time-based kept until the appointed time: a time which has been accomplished in Christ, that led to the calling of all of humanity to come to rest in Christ after Salvation.
Obedience to the Ten Commandments is now an expression of our love and Faith in Christ expected of all True Christians. It is no longer by sacrifices and expression of self-righteousness to receive God’s blessings. (Ephesians 4:17-32, 5:1-21).
FINAL WORD
A CALL TO REST IN CHRIST LOVE (Matthew 11:28-30)
To be under the law is to be under Adams’s transgression, waiting to be received and cleansed with the precious blood of Christ shared for humanity on the cross. (Romans 5:13-14)
The sin issue must be dealt with first before a man can begin to live in peace and obedience to the word of God. (Romans 3:23). In Christ’s law, we come to rest, because it is no longer a life of do’s, don’t, and not have to be stoned to death because we erred.
Jesus Christ gave us a New Life and a new spirit, that was not attainable under the law, because the Holy Spirit of God was not present in the hearts of persons before Christ’s coming and final sacrifice. (Romans 5:17-19, John 6:63). The Law of Moses was simply a shadow that was not meant to lead humanity to the exact essence of God’s undying love for humanity, but a guide. And to that effect, Paul the apostle being filled with the Spirit of God, spoke: now that Faith has come, we no longer need a schoolmaster to guide us to the things of God. (Galatians 3:22-25, Hebrews 10:1-4, 9-10)
In Christ, dwells the Godhead bodily that now made New Creatures complete as God intended for humanity having reconciled our Spirit back to God. (Colossians 2:9-11)
